 | From New York City, and Beyond... | Oct 29, 2007 |
Ok - so I'm living in New York City and I'm a bead artist. Being a bead artist in New York City equates starving...well... that is, if I were living off of just my art... So, since the starving artist stereotype doesn't fit my lifestyle, I've been working as a quality assurance management consutlant in international banking and finance. Heck, it pays the bills! I've got a dream apartment in Manhattan, a dreamier husband who also is an art critic (if you can't beat 'em join 'em...) I have to admit, life is pretty damn good!

I know I waited a whole week before sharing - it's just been busy since I got home... but I have to admit I had a fantastic trip! We saw every California cliche - from the traffic jams, the roadside shootings (no kidding),... more

This was a video I made of simply the same scene, different people over the course of an hour on 54th and 9th. (Yes, one of my favorite bars are there...)

A quote from NYCvisit.com: "No one can pin down the exact origin of the label, but some refer to a tenement on 54th as the first "Hell's Kitchen." Another explanation points to an infamous building at 39th as the true original. A gang and a local dive took the name as well. The truth is difficult to uncover, since the West Side was peppered with menacing nicknames like Battle Row and the House of Blazes (where arson was a favorite form of entertainment), so Hell's Kitchen was just another way of describing a place that was hotter than hell. The expression was possibly an import: a similar slum also existed in London and was known as Hell's Kitchen." The story I heard was it was named after a conversation between two Irish cops in the 20's: Cop 1 = "It's hot as hell in the City today." Cop 2 = "Yeah, and we're in Hell's Kitchen" Stupid story, though. I like the first explanation better. |

D'oh! not "bot", it's NOT - |
 |
And it's close to everything in NYC that's worth seeing...which brings up another question...why is it called Hell's Kitchen...(the neighborhood, bot your page)....? |
 |
I live in Hell's Kitchen - a neighborhood in New York City. It's also known as 'Clinton' or 'Midtown West' - it's the neighborhood where West Side Story was based, and where most of Law and Order is/was filmed. (I have to step past a lot of film crews every summer.) It's honestly the best place to live in the whole world in my humble opinion. SO, that's why! |
 |
why do you call your page hell's kitchen? |
 |
you are really lucky to get to travel... |
